Responding to a quest at Dynamic Ecology for Neglected classics in ecology and evolution, I suggested Karl Düsing's sex allocation model of 1883-84. As Düsing's dissertation and publications are all in German, however, I also searched for English translations. Fortunately, A.W.F. Edwards (2000 'Carl Düsing (1984) on the regulation fo the sex ratio.' Theoretical Population Biology 58: 255-257) translated an excerpt of Düsing's book of 1884 that gives his mathematical treatment. Have fun.
